Fairchild LED Digital Skeleton
For the uber nerd
Fairchild Semiconductor produced a number of nice digital watch models using both LED and LCD displays. One nice thing about that is that many of their modules are interchangeable. This watch started out life as an LCD model with a clear face. I changed the module to an earlier LED module which permits one to see the display unfiltered by the usual red filter and to see all of the little slabs of silicon and tiny wire bonds used to create the digits. Hence, an LED "skeleton" watch! This is a great watch for the uber nerd who likes to see what makes things "tick"!
This is a nice 6 function LCD digital watch from Fairchild Semiconductor. Unlinke many of the semiconductor companies, Fairchild produced watches with distinctive styling and very good quality construction for the money.
I like to think of this watch as a "poor man's Omega" because of the distinctive square Omega-like styling.
In the 2000s, a few companies such as Fossil built retro "skeleton" LED watches with transparent faces allowing you to see the electronics. However, this one is 100% vintage!
